What is British naturalisation?

British naturalisation is the application process that foreign nationals undertake to become citizens of Great Britain and the United Kingdom. All applications for naturalisation made to the government are considered on a discretionary basis. This means that although the requirements to be met for naturalisation are written into law, no applicant is considered to have a ‘right’ to citizenship under meeting those requirements. The requirements for naturalisation are clearly defined, but each case will be considered individually.

The requirements you need to meet will vary depending on your circumstances. If in doubt, it is best to consult or speak to an immigration Adviser for specialist advice.
